Weird Looking: so...what's up?

so…what’s up?

February 7, 2006 4:29pm (4 years, 5 months and 3 weeks ago)
I’ve been pretty busy with work lately, so I haven’t had much time to play around (which would lead to posting on here).  I’m still working my day job, and I spend evenings writing PHP for a startup.  I can’t talk about that too much (I had to sign an NDA!), but it’s challenging and I’m working with some interesting people who can also drink more than me.

I’ve gotta renew my domain name soon, which means I’ve had this website for almost a year.  Not counting domain registration, I’ve actually spent less than $3 on hosting.  Not bad!

So… what’s up with you?

Is that a rhetorical question?

Nope… it’s an actual question, the sort one might respond to if so inclined.

Wow!  With the right registrar you could host a low-bandwidth website for about $11 a year.

Part of me wants to move Muujware.com to Wordpress and save some money, but I don’t think there is any way I could pull it off before my renewal date.  Plus, part of my hosting money goes to my business and gets us one step closer to getting our own dedicated server, which would be much nicer than shared hosting.

But I’ll have to keep that hosting company in mind.  I’ve contemplated starting a MediaWiki site sometime.

Let’s see, what’s up with me. Um, I’m working on an application that will prove to be the death of me.

The kids continue to be insane.

My boss drives me nuts on a daily basis. I wish I could wrap my brain around Java or C# or something cool other than ColdFusion.

I have four blogs and I refuse to blog on any of them.

Other than that, it’s the same ol’, same ol’.

I’ve really been packing the miles on, myself…literally, I’ve been driving close to 400 miles a day.  It may surprise you, but that can wear you out.  It’s got me wondering if maybe I should make that move to the front counter.  All the managers and everybody else in the company sure seems to want me to.  I’m still hesitant.  I don’t know if I could sell anything.  At all.

The other thing is what if I get stuck there?  I mean, I want to go back to school at SOME point.  I’m seriously doubting my ability to finish a degree in CS, but I still want to go, even if I have to settle for an IS degree or something *shudders*

Other than that, I’ve recently become re-obsessed with muffins not being fruit.  Because man, they’re sure not…no matter what any lady at any UIL contest says!

I just got my tax refund in yesterday, so I’m probably going to put some of it into my car.  Probably a cd/mp3 player.  Maybe I’ll even get around to buying that relay to fix the stupid air conditioner.

In other news, my laundry is done, I’m about to go eat, and Rebecca still isn’t interested!  That’s about it.

If you read Microsoft’s TCO estimates , you might get the idea that Windows is inexpensive.  But the least expensive ASP.NET hosting is still, you know, 20 times what I pay here.  Granted this site is inexpensive because it uses so little bandwidth and disk space, but shouldn’t that be the case?

Monty, I wouldn’t worry too much about selling stuff.  I’ve never seen an O’Reilly employee who was a salesman.  I mean nobody’s ever said, “What am I going to have to do to put you in this alternator today?”  …or “So, are we still feeling good about the 24-piece wrench set?”

Is it possible you don’t want to major in computers?  Maybe you want to major in math and then later be forced to work on computers.  Because, you know, who really sits around and does math all day?

Monty, whatever you do, just don’t be the guy at a local O’Reilly who left a long line full of waiting customers (myself being the next in line) to “put away” some boxes that were beside the counter.  I don’t know what’s in his job description, but “put away” boxes must have meant “go in the back and drink a Dr. Pepper,” because that’s the only thing I saw him doing.

So, whatever position that guy was in, don’t take it.  I’m pretty sure he wasn’t a salesman because he obviously wasn’t trying to sell me anything.  I tend to think he was some kind of “associate jerk-hole” (I’m censoring myself here for the sake of the children).  I had half a mind to go down the street to the AutoZone (there’s always an AutoZone down the street), but I had already waited in queue for 20 minutes and I wasn’t all too excited about starting over.

As for muffin being fruit, I’ve been thinking about that, too.  My current Muffins Aren't Fruit FAQ just isn’t doing enough to spread the word.  I need to come up with something bigger and better (and perhaps funnier, too).

I wanted to share this with you. Your niece is nuts, btw.
